Cities in Romania to measure and cure their impact on the environment

Bucharest, February 1, 2016 – CSR BootIQ is pleased to mark its first anniversary by joining CDP as Romania Partner to CDP Cities.

The number of cities around the world adopting low-carbon energy initiatives is increasing, over a third of the cities disclosing to CDP currently developing climate change strategies and setting themselves, adaptation, resilience and renewable energy goals.

Whether it is divided into air quality, noise levels, cleanliness or green spaces, environment is a critical issue for urban populations. The European Commission’s “Quality of life in cities” perception survey of 2013 places Bucharest among the European capitals with the least satisfied population in terms of air quality and noise levels. Piatra Neamt, on the other hand, is listed among the cleanest cities.

“Local action is needed, and we can only achieve a carbon-free economy through collective action and partnerships. We welcome CSR BootIQ, a company that works with Global Reporting Initiative and other well-known organizations, as our Partner in Romania. With their support on the ground we would be able to expand our programme and include Romanian cities in our annual reports,” said Conor Riffle, Director, CDP Cities and Data Product Innovation.

“Working with CDP is a privilege,” said Cristina Balan, CSR BootIQ Managing Partner. “We were early in the inception stage when we decided to set up strong partnerships with major international organizations. Although our cooperation with CDP Cities starts in a challenging year for all communities in Romania as they would re-elect their mayors and local governments, we are excited to expand our range of services and competencies.”

Social risks as a result of climate change tend to become a burden for local authorities globally. The first step in addressing such risks is to accept that they are there to stay, even increase unless these risks are properly assessed. The next step is to see them as economic opportunities rather than vulnerabilities.
